Westmorland Orchestra

President: Martin Roscoe
Vice-President: Barry Sharkey
Chairman: Rachel Malloch
Music Director: Richard Howarth

The Westmorland Orchestra gave its first concert in 1945. The membership is made up of over 60 dedicated amateur musicians who rehearse weekly in Kendal from September to May and give three public concerts a year. In its performances of large-scale works, professional musicians augment the orchestra.
It presents the full range of the established symphony concert repertoire, and also newer, lesser-known works of the 20th century. It actively supports and encourages young musicians embarking on a professional career.

The Orchestra is grateful for the support it receives from Arts Council of England, Making Music, South Lakeland District Council and the Frieda Scott Trust. However, in times of rapid cost escalation it simply could not continue to exist without the generous support of its many Patrons.

Applications for membership are always welcome; both from players, who should write to the Hon. Secretary, and from those who would like to become involved in the Orchestra by supporting and furthering its activities as Patrons.

The Westmorland Orchestra is a registered Charity: number 502339.
